LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)-A late night train accident sends a Longview man to the hospital, injured but alive. It happened around 9:50 Saturday night at a railroad crossing in the 1400 block of Sabine street and Ray street. Police say 52-year-old, Donald Roy Brown was wearing dark clothing , and engineers could not see him to stop in time.

"We got a call that a pedestrian had been hit by a train apparently he was trying to cross the train bridge," says Longview police officer Kristine Brian.

The victim in this case was trying to walk his bicycle across the tracks a little farther down from the crossing area, but there was no place for him to go when he realized the train was upon him. When struck, he was thrown 20 feet down a slope and into a creek bed. The impact was so hard, it literally knocked him out of his shoes.

"He actually was struck and came out of his shoes," Brian says.

Family members say the victim has some possible broken bones, but he will survive his injuries. Its not know why he crossed in front of the train or why he didn't get out of the way sooner, possibly because there's a sharp slope and narrow walkway near the tracks.

"That's a very narrow train bridge and there was just nowhere for him to go," Brian says.

Paramedics were astonished to see him still alive. Authorities have not released the victim's name. We're told tonight he is still at Good Shepherd medical center.
