Antiques & Vintage Collectibles Show offers good times for good causes

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

If you're looking for something unique to do this weekend, look no further -- the Tyler Kiwanis Club is hosting the 45th annual Antiques and Vintage Collectibles Show at Harvey Hall in Tyler.

Organizers say it's a great way to spend a weekend and help several local causes at the same time.

"We should have 35 to 40 different vendors from all over the country coming here to show these. And it is not just a show, but it's a show and a sale, so people can come down and buy the antiques and we highly recommend that," said David Lockridge of the Tyler Kiwanis Club.

The vendors have come from all over the United States, including Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, and Oklahoma. Local dealer Wesley Beard of Jacksonville said it's a great way for the people of East Texas to get a taste of a lot of different worlds.

"Tyler is a great city of diversity in that many of the dealers offer different shopping opportunities, and the quality of the show has steadily been on the incline," he said.

Beard offers antique furniture from France and Belgium in his booth, but you'll find all sorts of antiques over the weekend.

"The different things you're going to see here are different cut glass, different glasswares. We've got toys, we've got sheet music, we've got books, we've got a lot of antique furniture, just anything that is considered an antique, they will have represented down here," Lockridge said.

The Antique and Vintage Collectible Show serves as a major fundraiser for the Kiwanis to contribute to several local children's charities.

"The antique show is just an outlet to give people in Tyler and surrounding areas something to do on the weekends, something fun, something to get out of the house and do. And it also allows us to collect money that we can use in our community right here," Lockridge said.

Those charities include the Boys and Girls Club of Tyler, St. Paul's Dental Clinic, The Character Network, Camp Tyler, Reading is Fundamental, Tyler Day Nursery, the Whitehouse High School Key Club, the Boy Scouts of America and the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive.

The doors are open at Harvey Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets cost $5 each, and one ticket will admit you to the show all weekend long.
