Investor buys former Goodyear plant in Tyler

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An investor out of California has purchased the former Goodyear plant in Tyler, according to Tom Mullins with Tyler's Economic Development Council.

The Goodyear plant closed back in 2008. Mullins says it's unclear exactly what type of business will open at the former location. The property has 1.2 million square feet of building space on 155 acres.

Mullins says about six investors had shown interest in the plant over the years, but until now they were unable to negotiate a deal with IRG. He says Goodyear's closure hit Smith County's economy hard, estimating about a billion dollar loss per year.
