Longview habitat home dedicated

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- The work of several dozen women volunteers paid off in Longview with a couple receiving a new home. Women volunteers with habitat for humanity were putting the final touches today on a home that had spent four months building. The 77th Longview habitat for humanity home.

"Our goal is to get as many people who may not be able to qualify for traditional loans into houses as possible," says Longview habitat executive director Kelly Watson.

With donated materials and labor, their work was done in efforts to give Martin and Felipa Torres a real home, and today the keys and mortgage were turned over to them.

"This is a good day nice day to be here in our new house," says Martin.

"I think its a wonderful opportunity everybody's wants to own their own home, to be able to be here and see that and help people to achieve that and know your making a difference for those wanting to better themselves , its gratifying," says volunteer Elizabeth Smith.

Many had never done construction before volunteering, but took enjoyment out of the final product.

"Anytime you can put it out there , it just makes your heart feel good," Smith says.

And another family that will have the American dream, a place to call their own.

"They didn't go out a buy a house they built their house, it kind of creates a community as well as fulfilling that American dream," Watson says.

"Thanks to all the people," Martin says.

The first all woman built habitat home in Longview was built in 1998.
