East Texas police officers await reinstatement

HALLSVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

Tuesday night, the Hallsville City Council voted to reinstate two officers and the police chief, who were fired last month after an evaluation.

While lots of people were happy with last night's decision, not everyone is on board.

Council members James Mizell and Doris Coleman voted against the officers' reinstatement.

"We don't often have that kind of controversy in a little town like this; personality is involved and things like that, so I think it was a difficult decision for several of us," said Coleman.

Carolyn Franco worked as a petition organizer to have the officers reinstated. She said the police officers could not be more happy to have their jobs back.

"They have their jobs back so they can take care of their families and they're glad to be back and part of Hallsville, this is their family too.. their extended family," Franco said with a smile on her face.

Mayor Jerri Medrano said another executive meeting will have to be set up to determine when the officers can be reinstated.

In a previous version of this story, council member Doris Coleman was incorrectly quoted in support of the officers' reinstatement.
