Tyler PD apprehend suspected attempted kidnapper

The victim says she could not be happier with Tyler Police and their efforts to catch Easley.

And police say they're fortunate to have found Easley as soon as they did.

Tyler Police say the victim was sitting in her car in the FRESH by Brookshire's parking lot when she was approached by William Easley.

Don Martin, Tyler Police says, "As she was getting out, he basically got up into the door chamber of the vehicle in the body frame and was attempting to shove her back in the car--and he made the comment that he had a gun."

But instead of getting back into the car, police say the victim fought back.

"She brought attention to herself with the loud screams. There were a couple of other customers in the parking lot at that time that heard her scream for help and they immediately came to her aid," Martin said.

Authorities say the screams  startled Easley and he took off in this vehicle.

That same day a Tyler Police Officer spotted Easley and did a felony stop, but did not locate the gun that was mentioned earlier, and therefore let Easley go until further investigating was done.

Officer Martin says, "If we're going to take someone's rights away from them and arrest them, we're going to make sure we have good charges on them and that they're going  to stick, and know what exactly we are charging them with."

And Easley is not stranger when it comes to breaking the law, racking up more than a couple of charges.

"William Easley's criminal record that dates back to 1996. He's a man who steals for a living anywhere from theft by check to burglary, and now, 16 years later, he's been arrested and charged with kidnapping," Martin said.

A warrant was obtained for Easley the day after. Police and U.S. Marshals set up a surveillance team and arrested him at his residence for kidnapping.

Police say they charged Easley with kidnapping because he tried to push the victim back in her car and threatened he had a gun on him.
