Stepfather Arrested For Alleged Kidnapping

A two-year-old child is abducted while his mother was sleeping.  The stepfather is the prime suspect. Tyler Police issued a rare, area-wide abduction alert this morning. Channel 7 news joined in the effort, broadcasting the alert on our Midday News. A warrant was issued for the arrest of 28-year-old Kevin Scott Smith. He was accused of abducting 2-year-old Augustine Rojas yesterday, following an argument with his wife, the child's mother. After many hours of being apart, Rojas and his mother had an emotional reunion in the middle of Gentry Parkway in Tyler this afternoon, where Smith was spotted and taken into custody. While in custody, Smith went into some kind of seizure, and was taken to the hospital. As for the child.

"The child is fine," said Tyler Police Officer Chris Moore. "There doesn't appear to be any problem with the child, and he was taken home by his mother."

Smith is charged with aggravated kidnapping. His bond has been set at one million dollars.
