Chapel Hill holds championship rally

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - There was a big party at Chapel Hill Thursday night.  Instead of a parade, the school chose to honor the state champion football team with a pep rally at Bulldogs gym.

The gym was packed as everyone associated with Chapel Hill football was honored. The Bulldogs were the first team in school history to go 15-and-0, ranked number one all season long.  Success came in large part because of a very large senior class.

"It feels great and it's an honor just to play with this guys," said senior Sir Calvin Wallace.  "It still hasn't sunk in yet because I still want to go out and put on my pads. But it was great, it was fun."

Fellow senior Nelson Onwuzu is waiting on an even bigger day.

"We won that game (state championship) and it was like 'this is it, what do we do now?' I guess once we have that ring it will set in real nice."

The 1989 state champion Bulldogs were also in attendance including former Chapel Hill head coach Dickey Meeks.
