Winter wind sends drought-stricken trees onto power lines

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A street in Lindale was blocked off with police tape Thursday morning. But, this isn't a crime scene...it's the aftermath of a cold front. Part of a large tree fell and broke a utility pole--sending a power line into the street.

Utility workers say that trees are the main reason for the power outages that occurred Wednesday night.

"Everything that we've had to deal with today has been just big, old trees that--it was just their time to go, I guess. The drought, I'm sure had something to do with it," said Trevor Davis with Willbros T&D Services.

Many residents received power Thursday morning and afternoon. But, Oncor says there are still a few customers across East Texas that don't have power. But, the issue should be fixed by the end of Thursday night.
