Tyler man assaulted with baseball bat

On January 11th, 2012 at approximately 10:39 PM, Tyler Police Officers were notified of an aggravated assault that had just occurred in an apartment complex at 1600 Rice Rd.

The caller advised that the suspect was beating a white male with a baseball bat outside his apartment. Tyler Police Officers quickly arrived on scene and located both the suspect and the victim.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Cody Mitchell Burris, was found to have head injuries from being struck on the head. Burris was transported by ambulance to the East Texas Medical Center (ETMC). The suspect, identified as 20 year old Michael Colton Strother, was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Felony Aggravated Assault. The details of the incident are still being investigated by the Tyler Police Department.

Burris is currently still being treated at the East Texas Medical Center and his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
