An afternoon fire destroyed a back building belonging to Pets and Friends, a pet funeral and crematory.
Dixie Fire Department said they received the call just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Officials said when they arrived on scene the flames had engulfed about a quarter of the crematorium.
Assistant Chief of Dixie Fire Department Matt York said they were able to save the main building, but it does have heavy smoke damage.
According to investigators, the fire started in a back corner of the crematorium, but they are unsure as to how it started at this time.
The owner of Pets and Friends, Kathy Beard, said she had left about 15 minutes before the fire reportedly started. Beard said the crematory itself was not damaged and hopes she will be able to open her business again soon.
Gabe Urbina is a photographer and graphic designer who is renting a section of the building and using it as a studio.
Urbina said he was there working on renovations when the fire alarms went off. He told us he ran to the back where Beard keeps her cats and was fortunately able to save both of them.
Beard said one cat needed oxygen, but had no major injuries.
She said she is thankful no one was injured in the fire.
