East Texas political leader faces criminal charges

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas political leader is now facing criminal charges.

Authorities in Cherokee County have charged Stephen Looney with one count of tampering with government records and one count of theft by a public servant.

Looney is the chairman of the Cherokee County Republican Party and the charges go back to when he worked for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Tonight, Stephen Looney is out of jail on bond.
