FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KFSM/CNN) – An Arkansas woman says a burglar strapped an explosive device to her ankle and forced her to rob a bank.

Fayetteville police say 73-year-old Betty Davis looked traumatized when authorities showed up at the Arvest Bank to investigate an attempted robbery.

"We have no reason to doubt her story at this point; I mean, all pieces are kind of falling in together, to seem like it might possibly be a genuine deal, but obviously time will tell," said Sgt. Craig Stout.

A teller called police after Davis told workers her husband was being held hostage at her home while she collected cash at the bank. Employees were evacuated as the bomb squad was called in to the remove the device from Davis' ankle.

When police arrived at Davis' home, they found her husband tied up but unharmed. The family's vehicle was gone, as well.

Neither Davis nor her husband were injured and authorities are still investigating.
