TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A strong storm system is developing to our west today and this storm will bring wide spread heavy rain and thunderstorms to East Texas. This morning a stalled front separated rather warm air to our south this morning where temperatures where in the 60s in the Lufkin area to upper 40s across much of the I-20 corridor. As the developing system to our west moves closer to East Texas, wind just off the surface will be out of the southeast forcing warm moist air over a shallow cool layer of air near the surface. This will cause wide spread moderate to heavy rain to develop this afternoon. Rainfall rates should average between 1 and 2 inches area wide with a few areas receiving over 3 inches of rain. Because of this a flash flood watch has been issued for our central and eastern counties until 4:00AM tomorrow.

As the storm system moves east of the area tomorrow, the heavy rain should come to an end during the morning hours. More light rain will spread across the area tomorrow afternoon and night as the upper level low pressure moves across East Texas. All of this activity should exit the area by Wednesday morning allowing for a brief warm up before another strong front moves into the area. This next front should move through dry but will bring some cold temperatures with it. By Friday morning many of us could be waking up to temperatures in the middle to upper 20s.
