Officials identify driver in hit and run

WILLS POINT, TX (KLTV) - Authorities tell us 67- year- old Rheuben Lann is responsible for hitting Casey Eggeling, but  said charges will not be filed.

Officials said the 16- year old teenager was hit by an 18- wheeler Friday morning on FM 47, about 8 miles North of Wills Point.

Officials said Lann was heading South on FM 47, towards the interstate, to drop off a load in Oklahoma around the same time.

Lann told authorities he hit what he thought were two trash bags, or dead hogs someone had hit before.

Authorities said when Lann returned from Oklahoma Saturday he heard about what happened and contacted law enforcement immediately.

"He went and delivered his load he was a truck driver and when he came back yesterday he stopped at a local store in wills point saw that a 16 year old kid had been hit and killed by a car as he was going back home he realized that the same spot we had worked the crash where we painted the scene he realized that was the same spot as the trash bags or what he thought were trash bags so he called me," said Trooper Brady Lunceford, DPS.

Lunceford said Casey and a friend were sleeping on the road, not walking when Casey was hit.

Lunceford explained when Casey's friend woke up he realized Casey was not there so he got up and left.

Officials would not release why the teenagers were sleeping on the road.
