How a rhino celebrates a birthday

Today was a very special occasion at the Caldwell Zoo. Jumbe, the rhinoceros, turned nine-years-old. The staff created a birthday cake for him made out of bananas, bread and a special wildlife molasses.

"His birth was very significant as black rhinos are endangered species, so we were super excited to have him born here. You know, he's grown up here and he's a pretty neat rhino; he's very laid back he likes attention from his keepers," says curator of mammals, Scotty Stainback.

Stainback tells us Jumbe loves to be handfed fruit and is usually very calm unlike other black rhinos.

According to Stainback, Jumbe is surrounded by family. His younger brother, mom and dad all live at the Caldwell Zoo.
