TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A John Tyler High School parking lot attendant is no longer employed with TISD after the district learned the attendant had let a convicted sex offender on campus.

Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid says the employee did not follow district policy, failing to check the ID of 31-year-old Anthony Lawrence Taylor, on at least one occasion.

Reid says that license check, would have revealed that Taylor was a sex offender.

Reid says Taylor never entered the school building during the school day, but was allowed on the parking lot by the attendant--to wash cars.  Taylor apparently has a mobile car washing business.

Dr. Reid says they became aware of the parking lot visits on Wednesday after reading Taylor's arrest report, and addressed the issue.

He says Taylor has a step-daughter attending John Tyler.

The Superintendent says the district became aware of other after school visits in November and says John Tyler administrators put a stop to it. He says, at some point, Taylor's interaction with the students after school, resulted in his probation being revoked, and his arrest in Brazoria County.

Statement by Tyler ISD:

Earlier this week, John Tyler High School administrators initiated a thorough investigation into claims that Mr. Anthony Lawrence Taylor had been allowed on campus to wash cars. Through the course of the investigation, administrators learned that a Tyler ISD employee had allowed individuals on campus without following proper procedures. While Tyler ISD does not disclose internal personnel issues, we can confirm that the individual who failed to follow proper procedure is no longer employed by the district.
Student safety is a top priority at Tyler ISD. Campus and district administrators will continue to review policies and practices and take appropriate actions to ensure our campuses remain safe places for students to learn.
