Daingerfield residents say Powerball winner is deserving

Daingerfield is proudly a small, close-knit community. So, it was big news that one of their own had picked up a million dollars playing Powerball.

On Thursday, we talked with folks who know the winner, Freida Thomas.

Bobby Mitchell, Freida's uncle says, "I spoke with her last night and she verified she had won the money and there would be a party."

Other than that, Mitchell says he doubts much will change about his niece's life.

They probably do the same thing they doing now. Just down home country folks," Mitchell says.

Thomas Rogers, a man who works at the store where Freida Thomas bought the ticket says the same thing about her and her husband.

"He's a nice guy," Rogers says, "He's very smart, intelligent, hard worker."

A hard worker who neighbors and relatives say was laid off from his job recently. So, this win is right on time.

Another store clerk, Miranda Browning says business has picked up. It looks like people are hoping lighting strikes twice.

"It's been big," says Browning, "I don't know how to describe it. Everybody's coming in and buying Powerball tickets, even on the night's there's no Powerball drawing.  They still get 'em."

Freida's uncle is one of them. We asked if he ever played Powerball.

"I'm gone start," Mitchell expressed, "If I didn't play, I'mma start.  Ha, ha, ha."
