Unzipped pants lands man in jail

BOOTHEEL, MISSOURI - A Bootheel Missouri man faces charges after police say he tried to pick up a young girl on the street.

According to Lt. Jim McMillen of the Sikeston Public Safety Office, on Friday night officers arrested 61-year-old Bobby Harper of East Prairie.

Investigators say around 6:15 that evening Harper asked a 12-year-old girl walking on Prosperity Street if he could give her a ride. When the girl said no, investigators say Harper circled the block then told the girl he would give her some money if she just got into his truck.

The child told officers she got scared and ran to a nearby relative's house.

When the child began walking home about three hours later investigators say she again saw Harper driving on the street. The girl told investigators she became scared and ran home. Her parents then contacted police.

According to the police report, officers responding to the area found Harper's vehicle. When they spoke with him, officers say they discovered his pants were unzipped.

Harper was arrested and charged with enticement of a child, a felony. If convicted he could serve anywhere from five to 30 years in prison.
