Hormone found in fat cells could be linked to dementia

(CNN) - A certain type of fat hormone could increase the risk factor for dementia.

Adiponectin is a hormone produced by fat cells that helps regulate the body's response to insulin and metabolism

But, according to a recent study, it can also increase the risk for brain function loss and Alzheimer's disease, particularly for women.

The authors of the dementia study found that older women who had developed dementia also had higher levels of the hormone.
