UPDATE: Woman burned in meth lab explosion in fair condition

UPDATE: The woman who was badly burned in an alleged meth lab explosion is now in fair condition at a Dallas hospital.

On Saturday night, 29-year-old Shanda Simmons was taken to ETMC in Quitman after the alleged explosion.

Her boyfriend, 38-year old Russell Love was arrested after Wood County Sheriff's Deputies found more than 500 grams of meth near his residence.

He's charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.



WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On Saturday 12/31/11 at approximately 7:41pm Wood County Sheriff's Department was notified by ETMC Quitman Hospital that a 29 year old white female had come in with severe burns from what she explained had been a meth lab Explosion near her residence. The Wood County Sheriff's Department later identified the female as Shanda Gail Simmons 7/1/1982 white female from Quitman. Simmons had been dropped off by a boyfriend Russell Allen Love.

Wood County Dispatchers contacted the City of Quitman Police Department to go by ETMC Quitman to get any further details. Quitman Police officer Fortner contacted Wood County Sheriff's Office and advised that the meth lab was out in Clear Lakes, which is in the County. Wood County Deputies and Quitman Police Department responded to County Road 2150 in Clear Lakes. On arrival Russell Love was detained for further investigation and Love gave written consent to search the residence to the Wood County Deputy's and found a working SHAKE AND BAKE meth lab working in the kitchen. The Wood County Narcotics Officers responded to the scene for processing and collected numerous items and drug paraphernalia along with two containers which tested positive for methamphetamine and weighted approximately 547grams.

Russell Love 7/12/73 a white male from Quitman was arrested for manufacturing / delivery of a controlled substance Penalty group 1 over 400 grams and is being held on a 75,000 dollar bond at this time/me.  Shanda Simmons was transported to Parkland Hospital for treatment. Simmons condition is known to be stable at this time. Further investigation is ongoing with this case.
