Tyler family loses home in early morning fire

Tyler Fire Officials believe an electrical problem may have caused the fire that claimed an East Texas family's home Monday morning.

It happened around 8AM on the 1500 block of Jeb Stuart Drive.

"The resident was at home and she heard some popping noises she had been asleep and the dog woke her up," said Jeff Tucker, Tyler Fire Investigator.

"The homeowner what able to get out and she was honking her horn and she got her pet and the flames had already started by that time," said Stella Stein, called 911.

Stein was at a neighbor's house when the fire broke out at the home.

"I was right next door doing some work for the neighbors and I heard some strange popping sounds and then it got louder and more intense and when I came around the corner there were flames starting so I called 911," said Stein.

"When the fireman arrived they found heavy fire inside the garage as well as the attic," said Tucker.

Tucker said the fire started in the garage.

Fire officials are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.

Officials also said the homeowners did have insurance and are staying with family.
