UPDATE: Man struck by stray bullet in Wood Co. has died

MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) -

UPDATE: The man struck by a stray bullet Friday afternoon has died.

According to Wood County Sheriff's Department, Bruce Straub of Mineral Wells died at 6:43 am Monday at a Tyler hospital.

UPDATE: WOOD COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT. - The Wood County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting that occurred on CR 2210 at approx 4:00 pm. The victim (a white male) was a passenger in a white Dodge P/U that was traveling east on CR 2210.

The victim is believed to have been struck one time in the head by a small cal. Rifle round. The suspect (Joel David Head DOB 5-26-1967 44 years of age of Quitman is in custody on unrelated charges at this time.

The victim was air lifted to ETMC Tyler and his status is unknown at this time. The name of the victim is being held pending family notification. At the present time Tyler PD is assisting the Wood County Sheriff's Office with updated information on the victim.


 Sources tell KLTV that a man has been shot near Mineola.

We're told a stray bullet hit a pick-up truck, hitting the victim in the back of the head.

This happened on County Road 2210 at 3:50 Friday afternoon.

The victim has been taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

His identity has not been released.

Authorities are looking at possible suspects off of CR 2210.
