ETX man killed while burning tree in yard

Nathaniel Fletcher. Nathaniel Fletcher.

Released by the Harrison County Sheriff's Office:

HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On December 29, 2011 at approximately 11:00 AM, dispatchers received a 911 call for an ambulance and fire units to respond to 804 Fox Hunting Rd. in Waskom. The caller stated that he was inside of the residence and heard what he termed an "explosion" in his back yard. He went to the backyard area and found his father completely under a burning tree that he had been burning prior to cutting down. The son states he rolled as much of the tree as he could off of his father, but he was unable to remove the largest portion of the tree that remained on the victims legs. Deputies found a separate fire of leaves and debris burning nearby. Deputies and fire personnel were able to remove the tree from the victim, and it appeared that he had multiple lacerations and burns, broken legs, and was killed by the burning tree falling on top of him.

Judge Westy Meisenheimer was at the location and pronounced the victim deceased. The 61 year old victim was identified as Nathaniel Fletcher of 804 Fox Hunting Rd., Waskom, Texas. The body was released to Downs funeral home
