Looking for a job? We've got some tips

A new year often brings with it resolutions, and for many people finding a job is one of them.

Jason is preparing for an upcoming job interview now, something many wait to do.

"This week is one of the slowest times for applicant flow. They shouldn't do that though because this is a great week to come in and get started before the new year," says Lisa Allen, general manager of Express Employment Professionals.

According to Allen, many people think the jobs just aren't there.

"Every week there's about forty companies looking for people. That's why people shouldn't think it's too slow...they are hiring," says Allen.

So, now that you know a job is waiting for you, how do you go about getting it?

"Take the things that you do everyday, whether it's on the job or it's been at home, and you're going to take and put that on a sheet. Then, write next to it what skills went into accomplishing that tasK," Allen says.

Once you have those skills written down, learn how to sell them. Allen says so many people focus on the basics like being on time and dressing appropriately that we often forget to concentrate on knowing what you can bring to the table. She says know your strengths and learn how to verbalize them.

Job candidates need to research the company before walking in for that first interview.

"You need to know as much about the company you are interviewing with as they know about you, the candidate," says Allen.

So, how did Jason do today?

"I really like his initiative and his personality; I mean totally flying stars he did a great job," says Javier Arriaga, a staffing consultant with the company.

With a job placement already in mind, looks like this is a win, win for both parties.
