Two E.T. College Basketball Players Killed In Crash

Counselors were on hand today at Navarro College in Corsicana after a deadly van wreck. A truck broadsided a van carrying members of the basketball team -- killing two players and injuring five players and two coaches.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows the drivers of two team vans had missed their turns while driving home after a 77-to-71 victory last night at Paris Junior College. The vans were attempting to backtrack when the wreck happened in Paris.

Navarro College President Richard Sanchez says he and other school officials are deeply saddened by the news of the "terrible accident."

The school plans to investigate what happened.

Tomorrow's game between Navarro College and San Jacinto College in Pasadena -- has been canceled.

Police identified the two dead players as 18-year-old Jason Trier of Giddings, Texas and 21-year-old player Pah Sarr of the West African nation of Gambia. Two players in Dallas hospitals, Chris Gonzales of Chicago is listed in serious condition. Elijah Coppock of Columbus, Georgia, is serious.

Roberto Flores of Durango, Mexico is in serious condition in Paris.

Head coach Lewis Orr was discharged from the hospital this afternoon, but Assistant Coach Bilal Batley is still in a Paris hospital, in serious condition.

Police now say Batley was driving the van when it was hit.
