Singing Bell Ringer raises spirits and donations

Salvation Army Bell Ringers are familiar sights at storefronts and malls every holiday season. But one in East Texas is developing fans for his remarkable enthusiasm in the Christmas spirit.

This singing bell ringer is bringing his own brand of Christmas cheer to the public.

At the 4th Street WalMart, 53-year-old Bell Ringer Kevin Ramey is making fans with his celebration of Christmas song.

He's been ringing for two years, and decided to add something extra to it.

"I can't dance, I've got two left feet," joked Kevin, "I tried the next shift singing a few Christmas carols and I was pleasantly shocked."

He does it for those in need.

"The real purpose of me being out here is to raise money for the Salvation Army, and my singing seems to be the best method for me to do that," says Kevin.

He has no formal training, but he sings for almost every minute of his eight hour shift.

His passion for song has touched those who hear him.

Shopper Chele Bass says, "I started crying, I was talking to my son on the phone and I said, 'Because in front of WalMart there's the best Bell Ringer I've ever heard,' [he] gets you in the spirit."

He says he'd sing even if no one listens.

And in a way, maybe he gives something back to us--that we lost along the way.

For obvious reasons, Kevin is the highest donation collector for the Salvation Army.

He can be heard for one more day in front of the 4th Street WalMart in Longview.
