JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

Texas A&M senior offensive lineman Joseph Villavisencio was killed in a car crash near the town of Normangee on Thursday. Villavisencio, a Jacksonville native, was headed home for Christmas.  Department and Public Safety Troopers say Villavisencio was headed north on FM 39.  He swerved to avoid something in the road and hit an 18 wheeler in the southbound lane.

The 22 year old was a Jacksonville native, earning second team all state honors as a senior with the Indians.  He graduated Jacksonville High School as valedictorian in 2008.  Arp principal Randy Copeland coached Villavisencio at Jacksonville.  Copeland says he's never been around a better kid.

"He was one of the smartest young men you'd ever want to be around," said Copeland.  "One of the most beloved people. He was a coaches dream. Everybody loved Joe. He was one of those type of me you want your kid to grow up to be like."

Former Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman released a statement to Texas A&M Athletics website.

"The world lost a very special person today," former Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman said. "My heart  aches for his mom, dad and sister, all of whom were so dear to him. His teammates, coaches and fellow students will remember him as someone who would do anything for anybody. I will always remember him as always offering me a smile whenever we talked and would always answer my questions with a simple, 'yes, coach' or 'no, coach'. He was one of the most respectful and high character players I have ever coached. It was an honor and privilege to have known him, and to have coached him. Although his life on this earth was way too short, his impact on the people he met will be everlasting. I will never forget him."

Moody Magic, a term coined by the Abilene Christian faithful to describe a supposed mystical aura around Moody Coliseum that gives the Wildcats a winning edge, is something the Stephen F. Austin men's basketball team fell victim to a season ago. Wednesday night, the 'Jacks cast a spell of their own - one of the defensive variety - to make sure their intrastate rivals wouldn't obtain a second-straight win in the series.
