Email scammers imitate Better Business Bureau

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Authorities are asking you to be on alert for potential identity thieves that are using the Better Business Bureau as cover.

Emails have started circulating aimed at businesses and individuals alike. The emails claim that a complaint has been made to the Better Business Bureau about you or your business.

The emails then ask you to click a link to view the complaint. But, authorities say opening that link could infect your computer with a virus or let scammers get your personal information.

"The scammer chooses a trusted organization or company and by identifying with that company they are more likely to get their foot in the door with their victims," said Mechele Mills with the Better Business Bureau.

If you receive one of these emails, do not open it. For more information, consult the Better Business Bureau website.
