Wounded E. Texas soldier returns home in time for Christmas

LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - To say 19-year-old Mark Chance is a typical teen is an understatement.  He graduated high school early to join the army at 17. At 19, he was deployed to Afghanistan.

While there, Chance was injured--he lost most of his hearing and underwent brain surgery.

But now, he is home just in time for Christmas. His life in the army has finally come to an end. The City of Lindale presented Mark with an honorary plaque this morning to thank him for his service.

Welcome home soldiers, family and residents of Lindale gathered in Lindale City Hall to celebrate his return. But, probably most proud--is his mother.

"I am so proud of Mark and all of the decisions that he's made being a teenager. Very proud," his mother, Beth Chance told us.

Mark plans to get a degree in psychology so that he can help other veterans deal with the emotional trauma they suffer from warfare.
