Self-Checkout Lanes at Brookshire's

Brookshire's just introduced its new self-checkout lanes. Just scan and weigh each item, choose your method of payment, bag your own groceries, and be on your way. The Brookshire store in Tyler on Rice Rd. off of South Broadway has three self-checkout terminals. It's the only location in East Texas with the new checkout service. Most customers we talked to like the new system, but one customer says he'll probably stick with the traditional checkout lanes.

"Maybe if I had a couple of items, that would be fine," Marcus Estes, a customer, said. "But for a buggy load, it's not practical."

"It's convenient, you know, if you're in a hurry and there's not a long line," Maggie Glodde, a customer, said. "So, yeah, I would use it quite often."

The in-store sign says you should not check out more than about 12 items. And if you have trouble, a cashier is available to assist you. The self checkout lanes are open 7 days a week, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Texas' Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program is not yet available electronically, so you still have to check out those items the old-fashioned way.
