They were talking transportation in Tyler Saturday and those talks could lead to better roads for East Texas.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn joined a host of area leaders to talk about the regions transportation needs. As a member of the senate transportation committee, the freshman senator will have a say in just how much money the state could get in a new highway bill.
Right now the state gets back about 90 cents of every dollar it pays to the government. Cornyn said the new bill could push that number up to 95 cents.
He said that money could help fund the remaining stages of "Loop 49" and could make an North-South corridor through East Texas possible.
The highway bill is currently being debated on the senate floor.
