Bullard man charged with Social Security fraud

Released by the Eastern District of Texas, DA:

TYLER, TX - A 51-year-old Bullard, Texas man has been charged with defrauding Social Security in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

Kenneth Wise was indicted on Dec. 7, 2011, and charged with theft of government property. Wise was arrested and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love on Dec. 13, 20111 for arraignment.

According to information presented in court, from March 2007 to August 2011, Wise is alleged to have concealed his ability to work in order to receive more than $65,000 from the Social Security Administration in the form of Social Security Disability Insurance benefits.

The Social Security Administration Disability Insurance (SSDI) program is a federally administered cash assistance program designed to provide income for workers who become disabled and unable to work.

If convicted, Wise faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
