Search for missing Pittsburg woman continues

A silver alert was issued Wednesday for an elderly East Texas woman who vanished from a nursing center.

Sylvia Youngberg, 71, has not been seen since Tuesday night. Officials say she apparently wandered off from the Pittsburg nursing center in Cass county.

Around 5:45 AM, search crews were combing woods and neighborhoods near the Pittsburg nursing center on Pecan grove.

"The last documented time that Sylvia Youngberg was seen was at 7 PM last night when she was given her medications," says Pittsburg police chief Richard Penn.

Constable, fire, police , sheriffs deputies, volunteers and neighbors joined in the search.

"It could be my mother, my grandmother, I mean I'd want somebody to help, its the community and its right here in my location," says neighbor Angela Frazier.

A 6 hour search of the wooded area nearest the nursing home produced nothing , and investigators are worried about the elapsed time between the time Youngberg disappeared and the time her disappearance was reported.

"With the amount of time that has passed one of the problems we're running into so an unknown direction of travel, where do we search," Penn says.

Investigators say Youngberg does not suffer Alzheimer's or dementia, but suffer other complications.

"She has had episodes in the past of depression, anxiety, paranoia," the Sheriff says.

Youngberg takes medicine for high blood pressure. Searchers worry that she may have been given a ride by someone.

"The amount of time that has elapsed has hindered as far as the search area goes, we've searched the county as best we can," Penn says.

She's believed to be wearing the same clothes in this picture a gray sweater and purple blouse.

"I'm going to make some more flyers and get by the stores and put them out even go door to door," Frazier says.

Mrs. Youngberg is 5'6' and 185 pounds, and police say she may be wearing her long gray hair in a bun. She is believed to be wearing a gray sweater, purple blouse and blue jeans. If you see her, you're asked to call the Pittsburg Police department.
