Carrier May Bring New Jobs to East Texas

Tyler may soon see as many as 200 new jobs at the Carrier Corp. plant. A Carrier factory in Tennessee is being closed, which may mean new jobs will be created here as early as this fall. Carrier is a leading manufacturer of refrigerator, A/C, and heating products. Tyler's Economic Development Council President Tom Mullins says Carrier sees advantages to employing more people from the Tyler area.

"It's one of the best, most productive labor groups in the whole system," Mullins said. "The labor force has just been outstanding. They have a good relationship between the organized labor group and the management people in Tyler. They have good communication. There's been a lot of new technological innovations in the Tyler plant. They're totally changing how they produce this product. They have made it a lot safer. They have made it a lot more efficient."

Carrier employs more than 1,000 people at its Tyler plant. Carrier has been in Tyler since 1955.
