TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - An elderly couple in Texarkana died Wednesday morning during a fire that destroyed their home.

The fire broke out around midnight. Investigators say a driver called 911 after passing by and seeing flames shooting out of the home in the 6800 block of Richmond Road.

Firefighters found a man in the back bedroom at the end of the house and a woman in the middle of the house. Both victims were dead when they were pulled out. The victims were 86 and 87 years old. Their names are not being released at this time.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the flames in the small brick house. Battalion Chief Dennis Martin tells us the fire started in the carport. "That's the direction the wind was coming from and it blew one end to the other all through the attic," Martin said.

Several firefighters will continue watching for potential hot spots. The fire marshal is still working to determine the cause of the fire.
