Cold Blast Hits East Texas

Not surprisingly, cold temperatures can be a major inconvenience for East Texans who make their living outdoors.

Robert Alison works for Houser Art and Design. He and his crew have been restoring the stain glass windows at Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler for the past three weeks. He said the cold weather today makes their job harder.

"Anytime you're in extreme cold like this, you just can't function."

Just down the road on Glendale Dr., Carlos Gonzalez is resurfacing a swimming pool for A1 Pool and Spa. He said he runs into a different kind of problem when the temperatures drop.

"When it's cold you can't start working early because everything is froze," he said. "You just wait for the sun to come out."

A construction crew working for Thornton Design and Construction, got a little creative. They said they watched the weather and planned for the cold weather.

"He said it was 25 the wind chill factor was below that so we had the firewood ready."

Building a fire helped to keep them warm as they worked on laying a foundation for a new home. All the workers said wearing layers of clothes is just about the only thing you can do to try and stay warm. They also said icy roads are about the only weather phenomenon that would stop them from going to work.
