TISD holds 'State of the District" luncheon

By Jamey Boyum

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler Independent School District held their annual State Of The District luncheon today at Willowbrook Country Club.

Many local dignitaries were on hand to hear what Superintendent Randy Reid had to say. He spoke about the switch from the TAKS test to the STAARS test, and looking at what they need to change to assure the future education of our children is relevant. He also spoke about their financial situation.

Randy Reid said, "The state is really struggling with a number of areas and we as a district are no different. We just feel like we've got good plans in place, and we hope to be able to impact some legislation in the future that will help us have a more equitable system of financing our schools."

The first thing those attending had to do was take a test. It had some of the questions that are in the sample test our children are taking this year. Out of nine questions, only a few got six correct. Most got four or five right. No one answered them all correctly.
