Registered sex offender accused of breaking into ETX dorm

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A registered sex offender is jailed again after police say he broke into an East Texas college dorm and tried to take pictures.

Police say 51-year-old Robert "Trey" Saurenmann followed a student into the dorms at LeTourneau University, where he tried to take pictures in the men's bathroom.

He's charged with burglary of a habitation.

Sauremann's neighbors say they are not surprised by these new allegations.

Police say it's not the first time, Saurenmann, has been caught on LeTourneau University's campus.

Campus Police Chief Terrance Turner says, "One time, about two years ago. He was reported that time as a suspicious person."

This time, police say, he was caught near the men's dorm bathroom.

He reportedly told police he snuck in behind a student to get into the secured building.

"They allege he was there possibly for the purpose of taking inappropriate or improper photographs," says Turner.

Turner, says a student's quick observation that saurenmann appeared "out of place" may have helped prevent a more serious crime from happening.

"No students were harmed and to our knowledge nothing was taken," commented Turner.

Former neighbors of Saurenmann knew he was registered sex offender.

Brianda Espinoca says he made her feel uncomfortable.

"He was just a creepy person," says Espinoca, "Not trying to be mean about him or anything, but I just didn't appreciate the way that he would stare or he would just keep looking over here at the kids. I just didn't like that.

The mother of two says he only lived behind her for about three months. She hasn't seen Saurenmann in about a month.

Espinoca says, "Knowing the type of person that he was and he is, no, and I hope he does not come back over here. I really don't."

At this hour, he remains jailed. If he bonds out, campus police say they will be ready for him he's caught around campus again.

According to jail records, Saurenmann previously served six years in prison for sexual assault of a child.
