UPDATE: One person dead after train incident in Jacksonville

UPDATE: The Jacksonville Police Department has released the name of the victim. He is identified as 21 year old Brandal Dustin Shepard of Jacksonville.

Police say around noon Sunday, Brandal was crossing the tracks while wearing a hooded sweatshirt and had headphones on.

"He had a gray hoodie pulled over his head and had what they believed to be a cell phone, or an ipod in his hand with a headset riding up underneath the hoodie," says Sgt. Royce McCullough, Jacksonville Police Department.

The train conductor of the Union Pacific train says the victim did not appear to see the train coming.

"They had been sounding their horn for quite a ways down the track before they made impact," said Sgt.  McCullough.

However,  McCullough says it's possible Shepard did not hear the train.

McCullough says if you find yourself in a situation where you need to cross rail road tracks, it's best to cross where there's a cross tracks and crossing arms.

Officials believe he died as the result of blunt force trauma to the left side of his body, but an autopsy has been ordered.
