Bacterial Meningitis Case In Mt. Enterprise

A Mt. Enterprise high school student has bacterial meningitis. Mt. Enterprise is about 18 miles south of Henderson. Superintendent Paul Moore said the district sent out notes to parents today. The health department said it was not necessary to inoculate those who came in contact with the student. Because of patient privacy laws, we were not able to get the name of the student tonight. We do know she is in a Nacogdoches hospital where she was in critical condition earlier today. Bacterial meningitis is a serious infection of the fluid in the spinal cord and the fluid that surrounds the brain. It's spread by direct close contact with the discharges from the nose or throat of an infected person.
