ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - Joe Allen Jordan, 43 of Athens was sentenced to 25 years in prison by 392nd District Court Judge Carter Tarrance Tuesday after pleading guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of a 15 year old family member.  Jordan pled guilty to the offense back on October with sentencing set for November 21st

During the sentencing hearing, the District Attorney's office introduced testimony which included an account of the assault which occurred in a remote dark cemetery surrounded by woods.  Jordan is currently on probation out of Kaufman County for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Assistant District Attorneys Nancy Rumar and Lindsay Gode prosecuted the case for Scott McKee's District Attorney's office.  During her closing arguments to the Court, Mrs. Rumar asked the court to impose a sentence that would remove Mr. Jordan from society for a long time for the sake of the children in his family and the safety of the community.

During the sentencing, Jordan's attorney asked the Judge to place him on a long term of deferred adjudication probation where he could receive counseling.  Apparently the Judge did not agree, and instead sentenced him to the penitentiary.   "He is behind bars where he belongs" said District Attorney Scott McKee.  "He won't be a threat to the children of his own family and the community for years to come."
