Marshall businessman sings to raise money for troops

MARSHALL, TX (KLSA) - For Marshall businessman, Steve Carlile, music is a passion, but with the release of a music video to, it became a call for action. The song aims at raising awareness and donations for organizations that benefit veterans. The opening line of the song, speaks to its goal.

"We're here to welcome him back, and give our friend a hand," sang Carlile.

Carlile said he wrote the song to remind everyone who sees it of the sacrifice made by troops currently serving and those fought in previous wars.

"When someone comes home that's injured, when someone comes home that's never the same, it's because they've been willing to make that commitment," Carlile said of the song.

Carlile said he recognizes that not many outside of his church congregation have seen him sing. A respected businessman in the community, Carlile is getting a reaction.

"A lot of people don't know that I sing from time to time... I've had a lot of people come up to me and say, 'I can't believe that was you. I didn't know that you play guitar. I didn't know that you sing'," Carlile admitted.

The organizations named in the video are The Wounded Warriors Project, Operation Homefront, and the Troops First Foundation.
