Crockett facing possible playoff forfeit

By Wes Hamilton

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - The Crockett High School football team is currently under investigation from the Texas University Interscholastic league over allegations of fielding two ineligible players during their playoff win against Newton.

The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles 42-27 but the win could be wiped away and Crockett forced to forfeit if the UIL finds the allegations to be true.

UIL Athletic Director Dr. Mark Cousins told KTRE Sports on Tuesday afternoon that the process was underway and that Crockett had been fully compliant with the investigation so far.

Dr. Cousins also said that Crockett has already investigated the issue internally and paperwork had already been filed to the UIL office.

However when asked if he could say who made the claims of ineligibility, Dr. Cousins simply answered, "No."

After several attempts to reach Crockett officials through both emails and phone calls there has been no response or comment.

Until further notice Crockett is set to play Harmony Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Nacogdoches for the right to play in the region III Class 2-A Division 1 finals.
