Hundreds to feast thanks to food drive

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Nearly a thousand picked up their Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday at the 27th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive in Longview.

As volunteers filled shopping carts with Thanksgiving dinner, families we spoke to walked out feeling blessed and thankful for the organization's kindness.

Recipient Nora Palomino says, "It's overwhelming because my husband's on disability and we need all the help we can get. It's nice that people come together and do this for those in need."

"And I just got off work this morning. I work for a local nursing home and this right here means to me because it helps my income you know to come up here and receive food from these people this time of year," expressed Iris. "I really appreciate it and they're pretty good to have."

Genesis, 7, says she can't wait to help her mom prepare Thanksgiving dinner. It is her favorite holiday, "I like chocolate cake and I like chicken and I like green beans and we're going to have dressing and I love dressing... My mom is going to get a big bowl of dressing because we are going to have a lot of family over.

But she says that's not everything this holiday is about. Genesis says Thanksgiving is about something more, her family and her parents.

The organization says they will deliver any food not picked up to the Salvation Army.
