Experts share tips to survive Black Friday weekend

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The holiday shopping season officially kicks off this Friday, and some professionals are offering tips for how to survive the upcoming sale weekend.

According to the November 2011 issue of Consumer Reports, the first thing to remember is that Black Friday weekend isn't the only weekend you'll find deals this holiday season.

Rachel Carroll, a Mobile Manager at Tyler's Best Buy, agrees.

"Black Friday just kind of in my opinion is a kickoff to the holiday season. There's some really great deals on Black Friday, but towards Christmas and the new year there's going to be offers all through the holiday season," Carroll says.

People who stand in line for those doorbusters will get great deals on a few items, but you have to get there early. Best Buy will start pre-saling items around 10 p.m. Thursday before they open at 12 a.m. Friday. And after those items are gone...

"There's still going to be some great deals. You might not get the cheapest product, but everything's still going to be on sale, highly discounted, there's tons of bundles that you can get," Carroll says.

The biggest tip Carroll can offer a shopper is to be prepared.


"Know what you want to get before you actually come to the store because most people that are standing in line waiting, they already know what they want to get," she says.

The best way to find those deals is online. Retailers won't release their official Black Friday lists until Wednesday or Thursday, but a lot of them have been leaked on sites like Fatwallet, Gottadeal, and TheBlackFriday. You can also price compare at sites like Bizrate and Nextag.

And remember that, with the exception of this weekend, many stores will price match products to make sure you don't miss their best sale price.

"Definitely keep up with the ads week to week, look online, even other competitor's stores. You want to get the greatest deal for the customer," Carroll says.
