Texas A&M Bonfire Collapse: 12 years later

COLLEGE STATION, TX (KLTV) - 12 is a significant number in Texas A&M history and tradition and Nov. 18, 2011 represents a special day of remembrance at the campus.

12 students died when the campus bonfire collapsed at 2:42a.m on Nov. 18, 1999. Among those students killed in the collapse was Henderson-native Jamie Hand.

Since the collapse, a memorial has been built on the site of where the stack once stood. A portal stands representing each of the 12 lives lost. Each portal is placed facing the student's hometown.
