Christmas starts early with Mistletoe and Magic

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Even before we get to Thanksgiving, one East Texas organization is bringing Tyler a taste of Christmas spirit.

The Junior League of Tyler is hosting their annual fundraising event, the Mistletoe and Magic Christmas Fair, at Harvey Hall in Tyler on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Harvey Hall has been transformed into a winter wonderland, but Junior League President Laurie Ann Frank says this event is about so much more than shopping and gifts.

"We support over 30 nonprofits in the Smith County area. Every dollar we raise stays in Smith County. I hope we raise over $250,000. It's anyone's guess. We have live auctions, a silent auction, we have a car raffle," Frank said.

The money from those auctions and raffles, and yes, even the presents, goes to nonprofits that apply to the Junior League for funding.

And in helping a good cause, you can also find presents for just about anyone on your list ... including your dog.

"We are selling mostly dog items, we do have some t-shirts for humans, and we have bandanas that clip. They're really nice," said Sherrie Guinn of the nonprofit organization Therapet.

Therapet receives funding from the Junior League that goes to training their animals, and in return, they come out to help other organizations have enough funding, too.

"This event is crucial on many, many levels. I believe that we as a community make our community better through the use of ourselves," Frank said.

The open fair starts Thursday at 12 p.m. and concludes Saturday at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door.
