JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A puppy stolen from a crate in her home more than a week ago was found alive but covered in duct tape Friday.

According to Community Animal Rescue & Adoption's Facebook, the dog's owner Kathy Gaines said Pippy, a 6-month-old lab and pit bull mix, was found Friday in Jackson – a week after she was stolen from her home off Highway 468 in Pearl.

A group of students reportedly found Pippy in a field behind Hinds Community College in Jackson. Her entire body was covered in several layers of duct tape.

When the students took the duct tape off they realized who the dog was and called Gaines. Pippy is now safe at home.

Gaines tells WLBT she is waiting for fingerprint analysis results from the break in and was waiting to talk until those are available.

Pippy was just a day out of surgery when she was stolen Nov. 4.

In an interview last week, Gaines said she left home around noon Nov. 4 and returned two hours later to find someone had jumped her backyard fence, broken in the back door and taken Pippy out of her crate.

Pippy was the only thing missing from the home.

Gaines said people in the neighborhood had shown interest in Pippy in the past and even asked if they could buy her. The Gaines family rescued Pippy as a puppy when she was abandoned in a neighbor's yard.
