TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A strong storm system heading towards East Texas could bring heavy rain and severe storms to parts of the area tomorrow. Right now the severe threat appears to be across the southern half of East Texas with the main threats being gusty winds and small hail, although an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Across the northern half of East Texas heavy rain could be a concern. Thanks to the dry summer, soil moisture across most of East Texas is well below normal. This will allow for much of the heavy rain to be absorbed, diminishing the flash flood threat. However, a few local areas could receive up to 3 inches of rain so we will monitor the flooding threat closely.

Right now it looks as though the threat of severe weather will be south of I-20 with the heaviest rain falling north of I-20. Areas along and south of I-20 will see more of a scattered nature to the thunderstorms. This will cause rainfall amounts to vary between 0.5" and 1.0" between tomorrow morning and Wednesday morning. Areas along and north of I-20 should see more widespread shower and thunderstorm activity allowing for much of the area to receive 1.5" to 2.5" of rain with a few local spots picking up 3.0" of rain. All of the rain should move out of the area by Wednesday morning with drier and somewhat cooler air moving in. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this potential severe weather event.
